ASHBURN, VA — The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office charged a Loudoun County Public Schools counselor with taking indecent liberties with a child by a custodian, the sheriff's office said Thursday.
Ann M. Barrett, 42, of Ashburn, turned herself in to the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center Thursday afternoon.
The sheriff's office said it was made aware of the allegations in May after officials with Loudoun County Public Schools learned of an "inappropriate relationship."
The LCSO said it immediately began investigating after learning of the allegations.
"The inappropriate relationship occurred between 2013 and 2015 when the victim was a student at Freedom High School where Barrett served as a school counselor," the sheriff's office said.
The LCSO said it is not releasing any information about the former student to help protect their identity. Freedom High School is located in the South Riding community of Loudoun County.
Barrett was released from the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center on a $10,000 secured bond, the sheriff's office said.
