Classrooms Damaged In Fire At Paradise Hills Elementary School

SAN DIEGO, CA — Firefighters fought 20-foot flames in an overnight fire at Paradise Hills Elementary School after a brush fire spread to the building. Flames spread from a nearby homeless encampment to three classrooms on campus, located at 5816 Alleghany St., at 11:14 p.m. Thursday according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department. The fire was extinguished in 11 minutes; the department closed the incident at 1:04 a.m. Friday morning. No injuries were reported, San Diego Police Department Officer John Buttle told NBC 7 San Diego. The officer also said the classrooms sustained major damage and are not suitable to be occupied. Teachers, students and staff will be relocated as a result. The estimated property loss is $95,000 in damages to the building's structure and contents. No other information was released. A fire investigator has been assigned to the incident. — City News Service
