HOBOKEN, NJ — Hoboken health officials had hoped to begin administering shots of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines to children ages 5-11 this weekend. But the city announced there will be a slight delay in getting shots into arms. But only by a matter of a couple of days. The city announced Friday that vaccinations of children previously not approved for the vaccines will begin Monday after a delay in the shipment of the vaccines canceled a vaccination event scheduled for Saturday. The pediatric vaccines will be administered through partnerships between the Hoboken Health Department and local providers, following authorization by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the city announced. "By getting your child vaccinated, you will help curtail the spread of COVID-19, limit transmission of the virus within our community, and help increase the likelihood that your child's education continues in-person and is uninterrupted," Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla said in a statement issued Friday. "As the holidays approach and we seek to gather with loved ones, being vaccinated is the best way to protect yourself and your family. I encourage all those, including our youth, to get vaccinated as quickly as possible." The Hoboken Health Department and Medicine Man Pharmacy & Compounding will host vaccine clinics on from 3-8p.m. Monday and Tuesday at a vaccination clinic located at 605 Jackson St. Children between the ages of 5 and 11 can receive their Pfizer pediatric COVID-19 vaccine. This clinic will also offer vaccines for those over the age of 12 and booster shots for eligible individuals, the city said. Appointments are required, and they can be booked online at www.hobokennj.gov/vaccine. Those seeking a booster shot must also bring their vaccine card. City health officials will also schedule vaccine clinics on additional days next week once the Hoboken Health Department receives an additional supply of vaccines, scheduled to arrive on Wednesday of next week. City health officials had hoped to host a vaccine clinic on Saturday at Wallace Elementary School, but the clinic has been cancelled as the City will not receive its supply of pediatric COVID-19 vaccines in time for the event. Future pop-up pediatric vaccine clinics will be scheduled during upcoming weekends in the near future. "Since the first vaccines became available, the City and the Hoboken Health Department have worked hard to provide them to our residents and community members as promptly as possible," Hoboken Director of Health and Human Services Leo Pellegrini said in a news release. "That diligence has not wavered, and we will continue to ensure that all those eligible, including our children between 5 and 11 years old, have access to a COVID-19 vaccine or test through our clinics and provider partnerships." Hoboken continues to offer COVID-19 testing with local providers several days per week at 605 Jackson St. For a full schedule of testing clinics or to make an appointment to get tested, go to http://www.hobokennj.gov/testing. Appointments are required. For a list of pharmacy locations offering COVID-19 vaccines, go to www.hobokennj.gov/vaccine.
