Bike Share Program Now Locally-Operated

By John Gibson, WNIN November 4, 2021 Officials are celebrating an upgrade to the local bike share program. The Evansville Trails Coalition says the program is now locally-operated. Coalition Executive Director Lorie Van Hook tells WNIN the change is good for local riders. "We're able to provide better customer service so that we can be there if something were to happen with a rider. And then also, we're able to do more with promos with bike share giveaways. We can give them to people that need them for transportation." Van Hook says rental fees remain the same. "It's about five cents a minute that equals to $3 an hour. Those who have a membership for students they can ride for two hours for free and then after that, $3. And then a regular adult membership is $40 a year. They can ride for an hour for free. Otherwise, you can pay as you go. That's the general membership and that's $3 an hour." Van Hook says nearly 600 people have become members of the bike share program. She expects the number to take off in the spring. There are six bike stations in Evansville and one in Henderson. WNIN is the NPR/PBS affiliate in Evansville, Indiana.
