COLLIER, PA — A U.S. Postal Service worker's former neighbor has been indicted on a murder charge after allegedly shooting him last month while he was inside his postal vehicle. Eric Kortz, 53, is charged with murder of a U.S. employee and firing a gun during a crime of violence in the federal grand jury indictment handed down on Wednesday. Kortz remains in custody and could face a life sentence if convicted. According to court documents, Kortz told investigators he shot Louis Vignone, 58, on Oct. 7 because he believed Vignone attempted to poison him and his family with cyanide when they were neighbors. Authorities said Kortz told investigators that he was aware of Vignone's mail route. Kortz stated that he located Vignone, and stopped his vehicle in front of the Vignone's postal service truck. Kortz stated that he "went to put some bullets in him" before dropping his weapon at the scene and then turning himself in, according to acting U.S. Attorney Stephen Kaufman's office.
