NEWTOWN, PA — The Newtown Township Police Department reported four incidents between Oct. 29 and Nov. 4. Read the details here: Friday, Oct. 29 1:00 a.m. — Police were dispatched to Newtown Yardley Road near Penn's Trail, where a driver had struck a fire hydrant. Police smelled an alcoholic beverage when they made contact with the driver, and he was unable to satisfactorily perform field sobriety tests. He was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence, and charges are pending blood evidence results. 12:05 p.m. — Police conducted a traffic stop on Newtown Bypass near South State Street. The driver of a tan Chevrolet Malibu had committed a vehicle code violation. During the stop, police discovered cannabis and suspected heroin and seized them as evidence. Police took the driver into custody for possession of narcotics, and the driver was processed without incident. Wednesday, Nov. 3 No specified time — The Newtown-Makefield Truck Enforcement Unit conducted a commercial vehicle safety detail in the area of Fox Hill Drive and Durham Road in Wrightstown Township. The unit is made up of officers from the Newtown Township Police Department, the Newtown Borough Police Department, and the Upper Makefield Township Police Department. During the detail, eleven trucks were stopped and inspected. One citation and two warnings were issued for violations. Thursday, Nov. 4 1:45 p.m. — Police were dispatched to Ulta Beauty for a reported retail theft. The total value of loss was $4,326, and the investigation is ongoing.
