NAPERVILLE, IL — Utility rates are set to increase for Naperville residents staring January 2022 after a unanimous vote at Tuesday's City Council meeting, Daily Herald reports.
Water and sewer rates are due to increase in 2022, 2023 and 2024. Electric bills will not reflect an increase until 2023 and into 2024.
At Tuesday's meeting, Naperville City Council member Benjamin White and others discussed the possibility of considering how to help residents who find difficulty paying the increased rates, according to Daily Herald. Council member Paul Leong asserted that Naperville's utility rates are staying competitive with those of nearby municipalities.
Naperville's utility rate increases are expected to help fund improvements to electrical substations, water main replacements and other upgrades.
