Press release from Las Positas College: Las Positas College invites the community to its annual Veterans Day Observance from 11:00 to 12:00 pm on Thursday, November 11. The event will open with ROTC Honor Guard and singing of the National Anthem, followed by keynote speaker, US Navy Veteran, Mickey Ganitch sharing his experience of the attack of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Featured speaker Michael "Mickey" Ganitch – Navy sailor was getting ready to play in a Pearl Harbor football game as the sun came up on Dec. 7, 1941. Instead, he spent the morning — still wearing his football padding and brown team shirt — scanning the sky as Japanese planes rained bombs on the U.S. Pacific Fleet. He will share his experiences serving in the Navy and the attack on Pearl Harbor, the day that will live in infamy. The Veterans Day Observance is sponsored by Las Positas College Veterans First Program and Las Positas College which provides Veterans with services and resources to help them achieve their educational goals. This past academic year, more than 400 veterans, reserve/guard, or active duty military personnel were enrolled at the college. Veterans support services include a Veterans First Resource Center, full-time program supervisor, Veterans counselor, and Veterans specialist, priority registration, a textbook borrowing program, a study/drop-in subject support, work-study program, an active Student Veteran Organization, and other programs and services for Veterans, military members, and their family members.
