LAKE FOREST, CA —When the roof is strong, those underneath it can feel safe and secure. Now, the House of Hope—transitional housing for homeless women and children in Orange County—has a new roof thanks to the support of local dignitaries and businessmen who have taken them under their wing. The exceptional quality of the new roof will ensure that the estimated 1,625 homeless women and children who will stay at the House of Hope over the next 25 years will be kept safe, secure, and comfortable. The Orange County Rescue Mission's House of Hope residents work to build better lives for themselves and their children, according to the group. Residents are either in the job search phase or are employed, while they benefit from key services such as job training, parenting training, life skills training, anger management training, and more. Orange County Rescue Mission hosted a lunch event attended by local officials to celebrate the generous gift of a new roof thanks to many in the county, its critical importance to current residents of the home, and its benefits to the greater Orange County community. For 27 years the Orange County House of Hope has improved the lives of residents by offering sobriety support, life skills coaching, and safe housing. Jim Palmer, President of Orange County Rescue Mission, says that it has also been desperately in need of a new roof. "House of Hope has been operating since 1994 and has been a safe, comfortable place that homeless women with children can turn to for help and support," Palmer said. "After so many years and countless lives touched and improved, House of Hope was due for some exterior improvements. This essential roof upgrade would not have been possible without the initiative taken by Antis Roofing and Waterproofing and their partners, and we are deeply grateful." The roof was gifted by Antis Roofing and Waterproofing, along with many other local business partners. HomeAid Orange County, Best Contracting Services, Shell Roofing Solutions Group, GAF, Beacon, and Klondike Construction Services all worked to be a part of the project. They generously donate fundamental labor, supplies, and materials to revamp the worn-down roof of the home, according to Palmer. Local officials in attendance included Orange County Third District Supervisor Don Wagner, his Policy Advisor Al Murray, and City of Lake Forest Mayor Scott Voigts. Speeches were given by Charles Antis, Founder and CEO of Antis Roofing and Waterproofing, Jim Palmer, Supervisor Don Wagner, and Sabrina Harris, a resident of House of Hope. Attendees also enjoyed fish tacos generously donated and personally grilled by Wing Lam, Founder of Wahoo's Fish Taco. Supervisor Don Wagner spoke on the House of Hope, and how it has served so many from its quiet place in the neighborhood. "With no disturbances or police calls, many people do not know that House of Hope exists on their street. It's a serene facility of unity and service, a true asset to the community, where people are working to rebuild their lives and get to create a life beyond their dreams," Wagner said. "We are grateful for OC Rescue Mission, which deserves full support for providing life-changing resources to Orange County." Antis discussed the work the mission does for the community, and their ability to lend a helping hand. "We strongly believe in the critical work that the Rescue Mission does to change the lives of individuals and families in our community experiencing homelessness and other hardships," he said. "Antis Roofing and Waterproofing is honored to be able to leverage our expertise and relationships to provide a critical need and play a role in transforming lives for the better." Orange County Rescue Mission and its extensions, like House of Hope, can only do their part with community assistance, according to Palmer. "It means a lot to the families residing at House of Hope to know that the facility they are living in is modernized and will be a safe place they can reside while working on turning their lives around," Palmer said. "Individuals experiencing homelessness deserve to not only have their basic needs met but also to enjoy quality amenities and feel secure in their living space."
