Press release from City of Fremont: November 5, 2021 This year, the City of Fremont has made the difficult, yet informed, decision to transition away from a traditional congregant, Winter Shelter program and provide Winter Relief assistance in the form of temporary hotel stays. Families with minor children, the medically vulnerable, and those on a pathway to permanent housing will be prioritized. The Winter Relief program is modeled from the successful Project Roomkey program, which served over 2,000 individuals countywide during the COVID-19 pandemic. Program participants will be referred by their existing social service teams. The City of Fremont will continue to evaluate best practices and the needs of those experiencing homelessness to determine programs in the future.
