ROYAL OAK, MI — Earn a free trip to the Detroit Zoo by donating electronics.
The Detroit Zoological Society announced Monday that each driver who brings electronic waste will receive a voucher for one free admission to the Detroit Zoo. The voucher will be valid during regular hours any Monday through Thursday in 2021.
In an effort to limit the electronic waste, the Detroit Zoological Society will collect the electronics November 15 and 16 from noon to 6 p.m. at the Water Tower parking lot on the north side of the Detroit Zoo parking structure.
Printers, non-tube televisions, computers, wire, batteries, radios, phones, DVD and VHS players will all be accepted by the Detroit Zoological Society.
"Technology offers opportunities for a higher quality of life, but many practices to extract materials, manufacture the products and dispose of them at the end of life are devastating habitats," DZS manager of sustainability Andy McDowell said. "By recycling electronic waste, community members can make a meaningful impact toward reducing these destructive effects."
The Detroit Zoological Society also encouraged everyone to erase their personal information on their electronic devices before donating them for recyclable use.
