Hey, neighbors! Kathy Cioffi here with a fresh edition of the Atlanta Daily. First, today's weather: Sunshine and cool. High: 58 Low: 38. Here are the top stories in Atlanta today: The World Series-winning Atlanta Braves will be honored today with a parade befitting a team – and fans – who've waited 26 years to hoist Major League Baseball's most prized trophy once again. Beginning at noon, the World Series champs will parade through downtown and midtown Atlanta, then travel to Cobb County, where festivities will culminate at Truist Park with a concert featuring Ludacris and Big Boi. School has been cancelled in the cities of Atlanta, Decatur and Marietta and in DeKalb, Cobb, Clayton, Douglas, Fulton and Gwinnett counties. For anyone planning to attend, be prepared for traffic and road closures and, if possible, take MARTA as the MLB association estimates as many as one million people will be heading into Atlanta or gathered along the route leading to Truist Park. (11Alive.com WXIA) No one was injured when a single-engine plane crash landed on a busy DeKalb road Thursday, blocks from Emory Decatur Hospital, according to a DeKalb fire official. The pilot was the only person on board and walked away unharmed, giving a "thumbs up." The crash occurred around 10 a.m. on North Decatur Road and Dekalb Industrial Way, in front of the Coventry Place retirement community. An investigation is underway. According to officials, a trooper saw a silver Toyota Camry traveling over 100 mph and driving recklessly as it exited I-20 East onto I-75 South around 1:30 a.m. Although the trooper attempted to stop the vehicle, it sped off, leading to a chase that went from I-75 to various Atlanta streets. Investigators say the trooper lost sight of the Toyota and soon found it crashed near Atlanta Student Movement Boulevard. The four people in the car were not wearing seat belts, according to the Georgia State Patrol, and weapons and illegal narcotics were recovered at the scene. The victims have not been identified but officials say charges are pending against the survivors. (Free: FOX 5 Atlanta; Subscription: The Atlanta Journal Constitution) Atlanta author Deonte' Bolden has released a children's book that features superheroes with special needs, in honor of his late brother. "Differently Abled" is about a group of friends who all have special needs, including one who has muscular dystrophy. The character is based on Bolden's real-life brother Jaquan, who died from the genetic condition in 2006, when the author was 17. "My brother's spirit was living through me while I was writing this book. I know he's smiling down," Bolden said. "Differently Abled" is available online and in select bookstores around Atlanta. (11Alive.com WXIA) Operation Warm is working to deliver new quality coats and shoes to 3,000 Atlanta-area children attending Title 1 schools, living in shelters, or through direct service organizations. Since 1998, Operation Warm has helped to provide coats to more than 4,000,000 needy children and distributed more than 30,000 pairs of shoes across the United States and Canada. Last fall, 1,000 Atlanta children received Operation Warm assistance, thanks to partners including Atlanta Assistance League and Southern Company Gas as well as national partners like FedEx. This fall, the number of Atlanta children who have requested coats through Operation Warm's Wish List was recently up to 1,200, a number that is growing daily.
