SUMMARY Crew Chiefs are responsible for performing duties of overseeing crews of field labor to achieve maximum and continued productivity while maintaining and being responsible for all equipment used. They are responsible for the safe operation of the equipment, trucks, and the safety of their crews. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Supervises and directs the work of field crews, which consist of two or more employees. Makes recommendations as to the hiring, firing, promotion, demotion, transfer, and compensation of crew members. Evaluates crew members’ performance. Disciplines crew members when appropriate. 2. Observes safety and security procedures and reports unsafe conditions and/or incidents/accidents. 3. Notifies the shop manager in a timely manner of any equipment repairs that are needed. Maintains equipment. Informs manager of any supplies needed. 4. Trains crews on proper use and maintenance of equipment, tools, and safety gear. 5. Completes and verifies daily job summaries, time records, and other required records, including hours of each worker present at the end of each job, in legible English. 6. Consults with and makes recommendations to the customer and/or Manager regarding the job. Utilizes discretion and independent judgment in doing so. 7. Inspects and verifies that equipment to be used for the day is in proper operating order. 8. Attends and make sure the crew attends Safety and Mandatory meetings as scheduled. 9. Supervises the installation of BMPs (Best Management Practices) according to specifications, including but not limited to, silt fence, inlet protection, rock filter dams, mulch berms, and curlex. 10. Perform other duties as needed and as observed by Company’s policies and manager’s request. WORKING CONDITIONS 1. High exposure to outside weather conditions (wet and/or humid,cold, hot, and more). 2. Sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting, and moving during working hours. 3. May be required to work outside regular working hours, including weekends and holidays. SUPERVISION RECEIVED Reports to the Area Manager. SUPERVISION EXERCISED Supervises Common Laborers and Operators. EQUIPMENT USED/SUPERVISED Skid-steer loader, tractor, company truck, hydro-seeders, excavator, trailers, and any other piece of equipment needed at a job site. QUALIFICATIONS 1. Must possess a clean Texas Driver License, have a clean driving record, and be capable of safely driving and inspecting large vehicles. 2. Must be able to read, write, and understand the English language. 3. Must be proficient using GPS and other routing and mapping systems. 4. High School diploma or equivalent is preferred. 5. Must have a minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience. 6. Must be able to lift or move 50 or more pounds. 7. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. 8. Must be able to complete and pass a pre- employment DOT screening, which also includes a drug screening and a Motor Vehicle Report.
