We Invite You to the Beginning of the End of Homelessness. We invite you to meet Dr. Sam Tsemberis, CEO of the Pathways Housing First Institute, and learn about homelessness and an approach that is seeing success. Hors-d’oeuvres will be served & Cash Bar, 5:30-7:30pm It’s a program that starts by giving the homeless a voice and responding to their most urgent need – which is overwhelmingly permanent housing. This has given rise to a movement Sam has helped pioneer called, “Housing First” – a groundbreaking program that supports people well beyond putting a roof over their head. With “Housing First” success rates are over 80% (compared to just 40% using current legacy approaches) and it can be delivered at a cost that is only about a third of what is currently being spent today. Just as significant, it has proven to virtually eliminate homelessness in those European cities and countries that have adopted a national “housing first” philosophy. Dr. Tsemberis will discuss the opportunities and the obstacles to bringing an end to homelessness in the U.S. and the essential role you can play in advancing this important initiative and helping to educate the public. You’ll also meet filmmakers Don Sawyer and Tim Hashko who created the award-winning documentary, “UNDER THE BRIDGE, the Criminalization of Homelessness.” They’ll preview their latest project that puts a spotlight on the effectiveness of the “Housing First” approach and how we can raise awareness about this program.
