To expand further on your comments, most people don't realize that 1000 years ago, the Vikings had colonies on Greenland, complete with farms, meadows, and livestock. They were driven out by a mini ice age (basically a tiny ripple on the geologic scale), which we are now exiting, and those ancient colonies are now being uncovered by the receding snow and glaciation. Man muddles around on his little time scale, and the Geologic Time Scale just ignores him. Just for fun, run an energy-loss analysis on two methods of producing the energy required to turn the wheels of a car -- a standard combustion engine vs. an electric car with the energy originating from a petroleum-fired power plant. I suspect that by the time that you consider all the state changes from combustion to steam to mechanical to magnetic to electricity, then couple in all the transmission losses over miles of power lines, and finally add the losses in the charging/discharging of the battery, that ratio will be at least 4 to 1 in favor the internal combustion engine. The only thing that electric cars do is move the power generation (and pollution) of of sight of the general public and concentrate it in specific locations. It's just political and social sleight of hand. Heinlein said is succinctly, "TANSTAAFL" -- "There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch". Any means of producing energy is going to disturb the environment. Wind power kills birds; solar energy requires for solar cell manufacture, and eventually leaves behind polluting chemicals; wave and tidal motors destroy coastal habitats; coal and gas-fired plants pollute the air; and everyone is terrified of potential "China Syndromes". These "Green New Deals" are at best pipe dreams, and more realistically pure financial fraud.
