Come Explore U.S. POINTER study free Lunch and Learn to see if lifestyle changes can protect your memory or that of a loved one.
In recognition of Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, Wake Forest Baptist will present a free Lunch and Learn about U.S. POINTER – a national study. You are invited to come learn about this research study designed to see if lifestyle changes can protect memory and thinking as we age. The “point” of POINTER is to see if our region, along with four others in the U.S., can replicate a recent study in Finland that showed a combination of physical and cognitive exercise, diet, and social activity protected brain health in healthy older adults who were at risk for significant memory loss.
Some 6.2 million people aged 65 and older have Alzheimer’s disease. ZERO drugs exist that can prevent or treat Alzheimer’s disease. This is why the U.S. POINTER study is so important, because we’re looking for ways to prevent memory loss. Criteria for the study participants are: age 60-79; lack of regular exercise; and willing to commit to the two-year study. Whether November or any time of year, understanding Alzheimer’s disease may improve the quality of life for you, your loved ones, and the community. Register today to learn more about U.S. POINTER, enjoy lunch and be energized with pre-Thanksgiving exercise tips and demonstrations focused on ages 60-79. Space is limited to 15. Call (336) 716-3733 today and reserve YOUR spot by leaving your name, telephone, and number of guests. RSVP required. Location: Forsyth County Southside Library, 12pm – 1pm, Thurs. Nov. 18.
