SARASOTA, FL — Police are asking for the public's help in identifying five individuals who were seen stealing high-end fishing equipment from boats in the 1100 block of John Ringling Boulevard. The stolen equipment was taken from at least three boats between 7 p.m. on Oct. 23 and 8 a.m. on Oct. 24, Sarasota police said in a news release. Three different victims reported six fishing poles, four spinning reels and other fishing equipment worth around $25,000 were stolen. Anyone with information is asked to call SPD's civilian investigator Jeffrey Birdwell at 941-263-6028 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers by calling 941-366-TIPS (8477).
