Description

Art & History Museums of Maitland's Spring Young Artist Afternoon Workshops is happy to offer an 1-day class, "Basics of Paper Making". The Education Department at the Art & History Museums of Maitland(A&H) is excited to offer Spring programming that fosters an appreciation for art and history through the immersive experience of various workshops offered to students from Elementary to High School. As we partner with our Artists-in-Action & other local instructors, we hope to expand and enhance educational opportunities at the A&H for Central Florida youth and their families. This in-person 1-day course is for Middle & High School students interested in learning the art of paper making, taught by Judith Segall. Taking a trip around the world with different fibers, one will learn that paper is still made by hand in many third world countries, even today. Students will learn sheet forming and pouring techniques, embedding, lamination, and coloration of handmade paper, and will go home with a few finished pieces of art. Students are asked to gather recycled materials from their homes such a recycled paper, dried plants, dried garlic skins, onion skins, corn husks, dryer lint, etc. anything they would like to incorporate into their papers before the class. Each student will be provided with a blender to use during the class but are welcome to bring their own if preferred. There is a $15 materials fee which can be paid in cash at the beginning of the workshop. This is in addition to the workshop registration fee. This class is on Saturday, March 6 from 12PM to 4PM with a break in-between. Please note this workshop takes place in the Studios at Lake Lily, not the Maitland Art Center main campus. Please note the location on your ticket. In person classes will have limited spaces. All students will have their own table and supplies for the week and access to sanitization stations. The safety and wellbeing of your child(ren) and family is important to us so we want to be cautious and follow the correct guidelines. For any questions please call at (407) 801-3205.
