Water Main Punctured By Contractor During Work In Braden River

MANATEE COUNTY, FL — During the installation of a private dock, a portion of the 36-inch potable water main in the Braden River at 40th Avenue East was punctured by a contractor Tuesday, according to a Manatee County news release. Staff immediately investigated the puncture, determining there was no threat to property, and began planning repair options. On Wednesday, a dive team investigating the water main break found additional punctures on the top of the water main. The water main affected was scheduled to be taken out of service upon the completion of the 44th Avenue extension bridge project, the county said. A replacement is included in the project's plans, so the water main break expedited the timing of the changeover. Like what you're reading? The equipment needed to stop the leak and prepare for the new connection has been ordered by county staff and contractors. The work will be completed overnight Tuesday, Nov. 16 into early Wednesday morning. During this time, homes in the immediate area will be without water from 9 p.m. through 5 a.m., the county said.
