Greenfield Polling Places May Change: Census Redistricting

GREENFIELD, WI — In line with Wisconsin's 2020 census redistricting process, the City of Greenfield Common Council introduced an ordinance on Tuesday with the City's proposed aldermanic district and ward maps. The proposed ward changes may cause some Greenfield residents may find themselves with a new polling location in the next election. Others may find themselves in a completely different numbered Ward with the addition of a ward to the 2nd Aldermanic District. With the proposed maps, some voting wards and locations are likely to change, but there would still be five aldermanic districts. The Common Council is slated to discuss the proposed changes again at a meeting on Dec. 7, the city's website said. Here is how voting locations and wards may change with the proposed map: Voting in current Ward 18 at the Greenfield Public Library and voting in Wards 19, 20 and 21 at Elm Dale School would be relocated to Adoration Lutheran Church, 3840 W. Edgerton Ave. More information. Voting in Wards 1, 2, 3 and 4 at Glenwood Elementary School would be relocated to the Greenfield Community Center, 7215 W. Cold Spring Road. More information.Voting in current Wards 13, 14 and 15 at King of Glory Church would be relocated to the Greenfield Public Library, 5310 W. Layton Ave. More information. A city administrator told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel the map changes come as Ward 7 tops out in population and that several Wards will be renamed with the addition of one ward. A new Ward 9 will be added to Aldermanic District 2. The former Ward 9 will be renamed Ward 10, and the pattern continues for Wards numbered above. What is now Wards 9-21 will become Wards 10-22, city documents show and reporting by the Journal Sentinel also said. A previous version of this story said the Common Council would discuss the redistricting plans on Dec. 17. The meeting is actually scheduled for Dec. 7.
