Our Mission is to empower these individuals to gain a sense of empathy, perseverance, patience and hope We are hosting our annual gala fundraiser Friday April 16, 2021 at The Treasury in Pontiac Michigan. All monies raised at this event will go toward programming at Children’s Village (CV) and Crossroads for Youth (CFY). Havanese Nights will be filled with food, fun, and dogs! The fundraiser will take you back to the fun filled nights of Havana with an artist's marketplace, casino, strolling dinner options, raffles, music, and did we mention DOGS! We are looking forward to sharing in the wonderful things happening with Teacher's Pet. SALUD! Our Programs:Children’s Village In the two residential facilities, the program runs a twice a week, two-hours a day, 10-week, therapeutic intervention that includes one hour of classroom education and one hour of force-free dog training. The alternative school features a once a week, ten-week educational training experience. Youth in our programs experience emotional and sometimes cognitive impairments most often related to having experienced or witnessed violence, abuse or neglect, are wards of the state, have arrived due to refugee status with nowhere else to go or victims of human trafficking. Crossroads for Youth Each of the participants learned about how to train shelter dogs and how shelter dogs need special care and attention because of the environment that they live in. Students watched videos to reinforce what the facilitators are teaching them. After several training sessions with their dogs, students participate in two graduation ceremonies, where they demonstrated what positive behaviors they were able to reinforce in their dog and talk about what they learned during the program and afterward they wrote letters to the potential adopters of the dogs
