ROCKVILLE, MD — Montgomery County Police responded to a call about a "serious incident" regarding the football team in the Thomas S. Wootton High School locker room earlier this week. Principal Kimberly M. Boldon wrote home to the families of all students at the school, but did not specify exactly what the serious incident was.
Police told The Washington Post that when the call came in, it was believed that the incident was "sexual in nature." After interviewing the students and some adults at the school, police determined that there was not a sexual assault, they told the Post.
"The police investigated the allegations before the team left the school, including whether a sexual assault occurred," Boldon wrote in the letter. "Police found no evidence of a sexual assault. School administration will now investigate the matter as a disciplinary issue and will also determine if students were properly supervised in accordance with MCPS policies and procedures."
Boldon emailed the families of the football players and asked them to talk to their children about the incident, and delete any video they may have taken of it, according to The Washington Post. She later sent a follow-up email, saying they should not delete the video since it could aid in the school's investigation.
Patch has reached out to MCPS and will update this story if they respond.
Boldon said the school followed all of the required steps to ensure students' well-being, and that a team of psychologists and counselors would be available for students.
