Here are the top stories today in Burlington: Citizens are calling for safer crosswalks in Burlington after a pedestrian crash this past weekend near Battery Park. The serious accident occurred on Sunday at Park and Monroe streets, and Burlington Public Works says the intersection has been flagged through a recent study for potential upgrades. The department says some Burlington intersections have been made safer with rectangular flashing beacons to alert drivers of pedestrians attempting to cross, something this intersection and others could be in line to get in the future. (WCAX)Gas prices in Burlington have soared to an average of $3.44 per gallon as of Nov. 1, 28 cents per gallon higher than a month ago, and the highest average area prices in the last eight years. Burlington gas prices averaged $2.10 per gallon this time last year due to the pandemic and subsequent shutdown of the economy and haven't been above $3 per gallon since 2015. Experts say gas prices have risen due to a tremendous increase in demand, as the availability of vaccines against COVID-19 began to open economies up again. (Burlington Free Press) City leaf pickup dates have been set to correspond with recycling days next week. Burlington residents are asked to set their leaves out in paper leaf bags on their recycling days from Nov. 8 to 12. (WCAX) The Burlington School District will be hosting pediatric COVID-19 vaccine clinics following the Nov. 2 state approval of the vaccine for 5 to 11-year-olds. Locations and appointment information can be found at healthvermont.gov. (Burlington Patch) Burlington School Board has approved Institute Road North as the new site for Burlington High School and Technical Center, which will replace the current on-site school buildings that were found to be contaminated with polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs).
