ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Election Day ballots from dozens of voting districts in Essex County weren't counted Tuesday night because of what a local official called a "poll worker error," a report says. Essex County Clerk Christopher Durkin said voting machines in 56 districts were shut down without being counted first, News 12 New Jersey reported. Durkin said a judge has to issue an order before the machines can be opened and the results can be retrieved. There will be an investigation into the cause of the issue, he added. According to the Essex County Clerk's website, 499 out of 550 districts have reported their results as of 5:18 p.m. on Wednesday. That's five more districts than at 10:35 p.m. on Tuesday, when the following were listed as "not reporting": Belleville 3-2Bloomfield 1-6Bloomfield 2-4Bloomfield 3-12Bloomfield 3-14East Orange 2-1East Orange 2-2East Orange 2-3East Orange 3-3East Orange 3-5Essex Fells 2Glen Ridge 7Irvington S-5Livingston 3Livingston 11Maplewood 4Maplewood 10Maplewood 12Maplewood 16Millburn 14Montclair 1-8Montclair 2-1Montclair 2-4Montclair 4-8Newark N-7Newark N-12Newark N-15Newark S-3Newark S-24Newark E-13Newark E-14Newark E-15Newark W-6Newark W-9Newark W-24Newark W-27Newark W-28Newark W-29Newark W-38Newark W-40Newark W-43Newark C-4Newark C-7Newark C-9Newark C-15Newark C-42Newark C-47Nutley 1-4Orange N-3Orange S-6South Orange 9South Orange 11West Orange 1-4West Orange 4-7West Orange 4-10West Orange 4-14 Send local news tips and correction requests to [email protected] Sign up for Patch email newsletters.
