The Koma Kulshan Chapter of the Washington Native Plant Society regularly holds educational seminars--free and open to the public! We are currently hosting our monthly meetings online.
From Oregon to Alaska, the western red cedar (Thuja plicata) is famed for its decay-resistant wood and for its ethnobotanical value. Soaring to great heights and living to a thousand years, tolerating shade and flood and poor soils, could this venerable and venerated tree disappear from the Pacific Northwest? The speaker this week will tell us about the life of this magnificent species and the existential threats it now faces. Our guest is Program Director, Forest Health Watch, Puyallup Research and Extension Center, WSU.
