SAN DIEGO, CA — U.S. Magistrate Judge Ruth Bermudez Montenegro was appointed Wednesday by President Joe Biden as a U.S. District judge in San Diego federal court. Montenegro has served as a magistrate judge in Imperial County since 2018 after serving as a Superior Court judge in Imperial County and as the Imperial County Superior Court's family support commissioner. After working as an attorney at Horton, Knox, Carter & Foote, LLP from 1993 to 2000, Montenegro served as director of human resources for the Imperial Community College District from 2000-02, and assistant superintendent for human resources and administrative services for the El Centro Elementary School District in Imperial County from 2002-11. Montenegro was also assistant county counsel for Imperial County from 2011-12. Montenegro is Biden's third nominee for San Diego federal court, following U.S. Magistrate Judge Linda Lopez and San Diego Superior Court Judge Jinsook Ohta in September. — City News Service
