PASADENA, CA — City health officials will begin administering shots of the Pfizer vaccine to Pasadena youths between the ages of 5 and 11 after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention approved the COVID-19 vaccination this week for young children. The CDC's approval of the COVID-19 vaccine means that nearly 8,000 children in Pasadena are now eligible for the shot, according to city spokeswoman Lisa Derderian. The city receives its first doses of the vaccine for younger children this week and will administer them beginning on Monday during vaccinations clinics held at the Pasadena Public Health Department and Pasadena Unified School District campuses, she said. City health officials are also working with local pharmacies and pediatricians to help vaccinate youths. The shot for younger children is given in a lower dosage than the ones for people 12 and older but is still administered on the same schedule with two doses given three weeks apart. Appointments for the vaccine can be made online at California's MyTurn website.
