PACIFICA, CA — Firefighters rescued a man whose car went over a cliff at Devil's Slide on Highway 1 south of the Tom Lantos Tunnels on Thursday morning. Firefighters arrived to find a vehicle in the water and the man attempting to climb up the cliff, according to Cal Fire CZU Incident Commander Bryan Pineau. They advised him to stay put and set up a rope system before successfully pulling him up to the road. Firefighters rescued a man at Devil's Slide south of Tom Lantos Tunnel, after his car went over the cliff. It took 18 minutes, from the moment at 8:35am when firefighters got the call, to 8:53am when he was successfully brought to the top of the cliff. #CaWx pic.twitter.com/rulDLR1GYp— CAL FIRE CZU (@CALFIRECZU) November 4, 2021 The man is in stable condition and there were no passengers in the car, according to Cal Fire. "When he went over the cliff, he must have climbed out and was able to successfully get out alive, so it was pretty incredible," Pineau said in a video posted to Cal Fire CZU's Twitter account. In September, a man died after his car went over a cliff in the same area near the Tom Lantos Tunnels.
