JOLIET, IL — Joliet police made an arrest this week in connection with an Aug. 14 drive-by shooting on the city's west side. A Will County judge set bail at $200,000 for Elian Raya, who lives in the 200 block of Comstock Street.
Raya has been charged with two counts of aggravated discharge of a gun, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a gun without a Firearm Owners Identification card and a Will County failure to appear in court arrest warrant for disorderly conduct.
Joliet police said the Aug. 14 shooting happened at 10:47 p.m. near West Marion and Ivy streets. Police say Raya was riding as a passenger when he leaned out and shot his gun toward a 21-year-old motorist heading north along Ivy Street.
"Only the victim's vehicle was struck by the gunfire," Joliet police announced Thursday.
Three days after the shooting, Joliet police obtained a warrant to arrest Raya. At 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, Joliet police, with help from the Will County Sheriff's Office Fugitive Task Force, raided Raya's house in the 200 block of Comstock Street.
"While taking Raya into custody, officers recovered a handgun in plain view near where Raya was located in the residence," Joliet police reports show.
