Press release from the McHenry Township Fire Protection: November 4, 2021 Battalion Chief's Office Non-Emergency Phone: (815) 385-0075 Release Date: 11-04-21 Battalion Chief Kevin Sears At approximately 12:07 a.m. on November 4, 2021, the McHenry Township Fire Protection District responded to a report of a fire in an apartment building in the 800 block of Southgate Street in McHenry. On arrival, crews found a 2-story, multiple-family dwelling with smoke coming from several locations on the second floor. There were reports of an occupant being trapped as crews arrived. Crews initiated an interior fire attack along with a primary search of the fire unit. The fire was contained to the apartment of origin. A victim was located in the fire unit and was determined to be deceased. Fire investigators from the McHenry Township Fire Protection District, the Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal, along with surrounding agencies were called to conduct a cause and origin investigation, which is still ongoing at the time of this release. The McHenry Township Fire Protection was assisted on the scene with fire suppression from the Nunda Fire District and the Crystal Lake Fire Department. Several other area departments covered the fire district while the fire was being handled. This press release was produced by the McHenry Township Fire Protection.
