DOWNERS GROVE, IL —A second man faces felony charges in an armed carjacking that took place at a BP gas station in Downers Grove Sept. 30. Pierre Baugh, 23, of Chicago, was charged with one count of attempted vehicular hijacking with a firearm and one count of armed robbery with a firearm in connection with the incident. Demario Butler,30, was arrested on the same charges in October and is currently being held in DuPage County Jail on $500,000 bond. Police were called to the BP gas station at 4314 Main St. just before 1:20 p.m. Sept. 30 for a report of an armed robbery and an attempted carjacking. A woman told police Baugh came up to her passenger side of her car and Butler came up to the driver's side, holding a black handgun and demanding her cellphone and car keys. Police say she gave them her phone and ran inside the gas station. Butler is accused of then getting into the car on the driver's side while Baugh tried to open the passenger door. Police say Baugh and Butler fled after Butler could not start the car. Butler was taken into custody at his Chicago home on Oct. 25 and Baugh was taken into custody at his Chicago residence Nov. 2. "The apprehension of these two defendants sends the message that this type of random violent crime, that terrorizes our citizens and destroys communities, will not be tolerated in DuPage County and will be aggressively prosecuted," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement. Berlin added, "We are all thankful that the victim in this case was not physically harmed." Baugh is currently being held in DuPage County Jail, with bond set at $450,000. He is set to appear in court Dec. 1. Related: Man Charged In Armed Carjacking At BP In Downers Grove Armed Carjacking Attempt At Gas Station In Downers Grove
