AURORA, IL — Programming at the Gary Brown Art Gallery looks a little different this month compared to others. Along with an open reception set for Friday, the gallery is also hosting two free art presentations in mid-November. From 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, guests can enjoy a reception at the gallery where they can also meet digital artist David Sobotka, whose "Exodus" exhibit will be on display this month. World traveler and singer-songwriter Daniel Lim will perform live music at the reception. The gallery describes him as the "master of 'ethno cinematic music.'" Later this month, on Nov. 13 and Nov. 18, the gallery will host two free art presentations — described as "a story from depression to healing" — by Sobotka. The former date will take place from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., and the latter will be from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. "Come to explore, experience and enjoy David Sobotka's original, powerful, unique art creations throughout the month ... guaranteed to stimulate your mind and emotions," the release said. Juni Felix, an author and behavior design teacher, will be a special guest at the presentations, where she will offer a "practical guide" to get from emotional wounds to sustained healing, the gallery said. Opened in April 2019, the Gary Brown Art Gallery aims to "widen the scope of how people in the community enjoy and experience fine art," a news release said. The gallery's namesake, a native of Chicago, specializes in creating mix-media assemblages. The gallery, located at 7 S. Broadway in downtown Aurora, is open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and by appointment Saturday. (For more news and information like this, subscribe to the Aurora Patch for free.
