Description

Learn tips and techniques for natural hair care and healthy hairstyling as an act of radical collective care...over drinks! Hair braiding is a collective care practice for every gender in countless Indigenous communities all over the world and throughout the African diaspora. Even braiding one's own mane, slowly stroking each buttery tendril, is an intimate act of self-love that can help to restore confidence and increase resilience. Calling in the bundled up energy and protective styles of autumn, Eaton Wellness will partner with the DC Braid Bar for a boisterous hair braiding event. From hair hygiene tips and product recommendations to hands-on instruction, Senna will teach a practical introduction to the culture. As a master braider Senna's approach incorporates storytelling at the intersection of health, creativity and culture to enhance the experience and also make each lesson that much more memorable. This workshop is more for fun than anything, but you will learn how to do lightweight braiding and cornrows. Tickets include a couple bellinis and a mannequin head for 1-2 people to work on together so bring a friend...or be prepared to make a new one. Hair styling supplies and accessories will be provided. You must be 21 years old to participate because the drinks will be flowing! *With the health and safety of our community members in mind, we now require proof of COVID-19 vaccination or negative test results (within 72 hours) for all guests of Eaton Wellness. Please arrive at classes and treatments prepared to show your vaccine card or test results, photo of you vaccine card, or certified vaccination record.
