Avenue D near East Houston Street, New York City NY
Description
The United Jewish Council of the East Side (UJCES) is a nonprofit agency providing human services and community development programs in the Lower East Side to preserve and stabilize the community. Our programs include home care, older adult centers, social services, and food assistance. The majority of our clients served are seniors, but we serve all ages across the New York City area.
As part of our food assistance programs, UJCES sponsors two food pantries, which continue to be a vital resource for the community through the COVID-19 pandemic. The pantries cannot run without the support of volunteers.
For the food pantry at the Lillian Wald Houses (12 Avenue D, New York, NY 10009), we are urgently seeking Volunteer Leaders to lead its operations. Volunteer Leaders, which may consist of community groups or confident individuals, will lead the pantry and keep it running for the community.
Tasks include:
- Unload monthly deliveries to restock pantry (one Wednesday per month)
- Pack pantry bags
- Oversee weekly distribution (approximately three hours)
- Maintenance (recordkeeping, inventory)
- Communicate with suppliers
- If possible, manage pantry registrations and appointments using an app/website
UJCES staff will work to provide supplemental volunteers as needed and assist with delivery coordination
Skills which are helpful, but not required:
- Bilingual fluency in Spanish, Mandarin, and/or Cantonese
- Similar experience, working with the public and/or customer service
To express interest, discuss further, or for any questions, please contact Dana Donati, Manager of Volunteer Services at UJCES, at
