Derby City Chamber Orchestra is proud to present a night of jazzy holiday music with Gayle King benefitting Gilda’s Club of Kentuckiana Tis The Season: A Jazzy Holiday Event Derby City Chamber Orchestra is proud to present a night of jazzy holiday music with pianist/vocalist Gayle King and friends benefitting Gilda’s Club of Kentuckiana. Join Derby City Chamber in their second performance of the season for a night filled with joy, peace, and excitement on December 4th at 7:30pm at First Presbyterian Church in Jeffersonville, IN at 222 Walnut St. “This event is truly special for our community because we are welcoming a local musical icon into the fold of our our chamber orchestra, and we have worked hand-in-hand with her on the selection of every tune you will hear. The outcome will be a night of music ranging from a jazzy take on holiday favorites like Tchaikovsky’s nutcracker, Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus as well as popular tunes from all generations of secular, Jewish, and Christmas music. There is truly something for everyone in this concert.” Says David Borman, Artistic director of the Derby City Chamber Orchestra. Gayle King is a virtuosic jazz vocalist and pianist whose music soothes the soul, warms the heart, and creates unparalleled energy in every performance. She is from Louisville where she can be seen music directing at Stage One theatre, regularly. “I am so excited to share the sounds of a diverse and exciting holiday season. Not only will we be bringing many different sections of this community together, but we will be empowering folks by providing entertainment from performers that look like our community in the metro area. We have done everything we can to make this concert feel like home..” The event will directly benefit Gilda’s Club of Kentuckiana, an organization that contributes fun, community, and art to those affected by cancer of any type. Additionally, they not only provide support to those diagnosed, in remission or recovery from cancer, but their families and friends as well. “When my own mother was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins lymphoma in 2015, of course the weight of the diagnosis affected her the most, but the devastation for myself, my step-dad, and our closest family and friends was almost too much to bear at once. Nearly 70,000 people in Indiana and Kentucky have been diagnosed with cancer in 2021. Think about how many people love those folks and need the support that Gilda’s Club can offer. This is why we wanted to bring this amazing organization into the heart of Jeffersonville to, of course, raise funds for their admirable work, but also to share with our community, the phenomenal resources for those with cancer and in recovery as well as their family and friends.” Says Borman. Preconcert activities for children and families will begin at 6:00 and concert at 7:30. The event is free with a suggested donation of $20.
