Description
A conference featuring Maryanne Wolf. Her keynote address is The Reading Brain: Where Poetry Meets Science in the Service of ALL children. Dr. Wolf is an educator and neuroscientist who studies how the brain learns to read and what happens when a young brain doesn't learn to read easily. She is the Director at the Center for Dyslexia, Diverse Learners and Social Justice at the UCLA Graduate School of Education. When you attend the conference, you will gain an understanding of how the reading brain developed in human beings and learn about developing the reading brain components beginning at birth. You will understand the comprehensive nature of early foundational skills, fluency, and deep reading. You will discuss different types of dyslexia that can affect different struggling readers. You will learn about the need for more tailored intervention that addresses both varied impediments and varied strengths. Dr. Wolf’s Keynote will be followed by a discussion on Structured Literacy®, including recommendations on where you can obtain further training. This conference is a hybrid event. We plan to meet in person but to also welcome remote attendees. We follow all state and local regulations and recommendations to maintain a safe and healthy environment for every participant.
