Widely hailed as one of Paul Thomas Anderson’s best films, THERE WILL BE BLOOD returns as part of our Magnificent Andersons series. Widely hailed as one of Paul Thomas Anderson’s best films and a cinematic masterpiece, There Will Be Blood returns as part of our Magnificent Andersons series. Loosely adapted from Upton Sinclair’s Oil!, the movie is a slow-burn showcasing the various stages of oil-tycoon Daniel Plainview’s career, highlighting his relationship with various characters–most notably his adopted son, H.W., and his nemesis, preacher and self-proclaimed healer Eli Sunday. As Daniel becomes more successful, he becomes increasingly enveloped in his wealth and greed, leading to the deterioration of his relationships and arguably one of the most iconic film endings. Nominated for 8 Academy Awards (with Daniel Day-Lewis winning Best Actor for his incredible performance), There Will Be Blood changed the way we looked at oil, competition, capitalism, family–and of course, milkshakes. “This is a dark, uncompromising film, thrillingly original and distinctive, with a visionary passion. It is a movie against which all directors, and all moviegoers, will want to measure themselves. Paul Thomas Anderson is doing something new with cinema, and you can hardly ask for more than that” – Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian “There can be no debate about Day-Lewis. ‘Gargantuan’ is a puny word to describe his landmark performance. Try ‘electrifying’ or ‘volcanic’ or anything else that sounds dangerous if you get too close. His triumph is in taking us see ourselves in Plainview, no matter how much we want to turn away. Day-Lewis and Anderson — a huge talent with an uncompromising gift for language and composition — are out to batter every cliché Hollywood holds near. There Will Be Blood hits with hurricane force” – Peter Travers, Rolling Stone “Two and a half hours later, it finishes with a scene that seems tonally so at odds with everything that has gone before, jars so horribly, that you’re afraid it’s scuppered the entire thing – until you go home, think about it for a day or two, and realise that it’s perfect. It won’t come to you immediately, but this may be a masterpiece.” – Helen O’ Hara, EmpireOnline The Frida Cinema is a non-profit organization dedicated to enriching, connecting, and educating communities through the art of cinema.  Founded in 2014, it is Orange County's sole non-profit, independent cinema.OC's year-round film festival.
