Featuring 20 exquisite holiday wines Saturday, November 13, 3-5 pm At Wine Republic (in new event space down the hallway) Tickets: $20 non-members and $5 wine club members* Lost Slough “Wild” Falanghina, 2019 Welcome to Lost Slough. A wine unlike anything you’ve ever discovered, made with estate-grown grapes and “natural” winemaking techniques. These authentic, living wines are full of naturally occurring microbes so you can expect their profile to change with every bottling. Leading each taste, each glass, and each experience to one of wine’s greatest pleasures, the joy of discovery. This rustic white wine is one of the oldest grape varietals in Italy. Lean and refreshing, with citrus blossom and green melon aromas, it has a hint of bitter orange and a crisp acidity on the finish. Clarksburg, CA Groundwork Counoise, 2020 This Counoise comes from winemaker Curt Schalchlin of Sans Liege and Groundwork Wines. Curt lets the unique environment of each vineyard he works with guide him through the winemaking process. 100% Counoise, native fermantaion started in the vineyard. 100% Carbonic Macerated in closed topped tanks for 21 days. Cranberry, white pepper, rosewater, rhubarb, agua de jamaica. Central Coast, CA Mr. Brightside Gamay Noir, 2020  “I practice minimal intervention winemaking with all of the wines I make. This wine was cold soaked for 5 days before spontaneously fermenting in two separate lots. The first lot was 50% whole cluster fermentation in open top bins for 19 days before pressing. The second lot was 100% whole cluster fermentation in open top bins for 22 days before pressing. The wine was settled in stainless steel for 2 days before gravity racking to neutral French 225L barrels. Sulfured minimally after malolactic fermentation and adjusted slightly pre bottling.” Santa Barbara, CA The Fableist 210 Red Wine Blend, Bag-in-Box Andrew Jone’s first boxed wine is a blend of 88% Zinfandel, 12%Malbec. This wine opens up with invigorating dried herb and green shrubbery on the nose, complimented by sharp cinnamon bark and black licorice. Vanilla and raspberry finish out the bouquet. In the glass, enjoy black cherry with a touch of roasted jalapeño, alongside baking spice and bright, fine tannins. A Tribute to Grace Grenache Santa Barbara County, 2019 The 2019 Grenache is a blend from various sites in the appellation. Bright and effusive, the Santa Barbara Grenache is particularly expressive. All the elements are so complementary. Blood orange, mint, spice and star anise lend gorgeous nuance. Bright acids and a spine of tannins. Exceptional. Papras Bio Wines Tyrnavos Pleiades, 2020 The Pleiades are the nymphs of the stars, and this bottling is made from the rosy-hued Roditis grape. Of the three nymph-wines from Papras this is the spiciest and perhaps the most clearly an "orange wine". It is made in the same method as the Oreads and the Naiads: the grapes are pressed, fermented with indigenous yeasts, macerate on their skins for ten days and finally bottled without fining or filtering and with only a small (10mg) addition of SO2. Pleiades is aromatically spicy, with melon, white pepper, yellow flower, and ripe orange on the nose. The palate is dry and structured, with elegant tannins and plenty of citrus-driven acidity that complement flavors of quince, pineapple, Bergamot and green tea. Papras Oreads Dry Rosé, 2020  This year's Oreads is slightly darker in color than last year's, and shows beautiful pink flower, dried rose, and orange blossom aromatics. The palate is dry, crisp, and salty with lots of floral and citrus character: pansies, lilacs, the juice of blood oranges, salted pink grapefruit, and lemon zest. Georgas Family Hoot Light Red Wine, 2020 The Georgas Family is located in the historical area of Spata, the center of retsina and the unexplored Savatiano white grape, where they can trace their agriculture roots 380 years back. They cultivate their 4.5 ha of estate owned dry vineyards biodynamically. A dry spicy-fruity medium-light red in a liter and half pouch. Organic Merlot, Syrah and Savatiano, a native white grape. Fermented with wild yeasts and only light sulfite use. Great for parties and pairs well with barbecue. 1.5 L Halkia Corinthia Agiorgitiko Dry Red Wine, 2019 Certified organic, Halkia red is a classic, fresh, and natural vinification of the most planted red Greek grape, Agiorgitiko, from its birthplace in Nemea, by organic female grower Anna Halkia. The wines was made with no additions. It was not filtered and no sulfites were added. A red wine with notes of crushed red cherries, umami, and a whiff of salt. It is characterized by velvety tannins and a long aftertaste, very easy drinkable.     Siflogo Lefkada Vertzami Brousko, 2018 This wine is made from the indigenous Vertzami grape on the island of Lefkada in the Ionian Islands of Greece. Vertzami is known for its almost black color and aromatic intensity, shown here in all its traditional purity. Siflogo is a small organic producer that was founded in 1994. Dark color, deep and intense aromas of black fruits and forest herbs. High acidity and alcohol, and pronounced powdery tannins, with a medium body. Champagne Drappier Champagne Brut Carte d'Or (NV) Pretty notes of toasted bread, yeast, orange peel and white peach introduce rich, full-bodied and borderline creamy flavors that are shaped by a relatively soft effervescence before terminating in an agreeably dry, clean and focused finale. This is drier than the 7 g/l would usually suggest but I underscore that it stops short of austerity. Lovely stuff fashioned in a 'drink me now' style. Maison Joseph Drouhin Pouilly-Fuissé, 2019 A seductive wine and a really nice expression of Chardonnay! The color is golden, with some green reflections. Among the floral and fruity aromas, almond and ripe grapes dominate. On the palate, the wine is refreshingly pleasant, ethereal in its lightness. Long and refreshing aftertaste. Burgundy, France Lingua Franca Avni Pinot Noir Eola-Amity Hills, 2018 The 2018 Avni Pinot Noir has beautiful expressions of rose petal, wet stone, black plum, red cherry along with savory elements. It has slightly more structure than the Avni Pinot Noir from earlier vintages but is also layered with seductive fruit and a supple texture. It is vibrant and fresh. “Bursting open with blueberry and blackberry fruit, this well-balanced Avni integrates its savory notes perfectly. It’s aromatic and brings a light suggestion of mineral. Barrel aging included 20% new oak, and it responds well to a bit of extra breathing time.” Editors’ Choice, Wine Enthusiast Tablas Creek Vineyard Patelin de Tablas Paso Robles, 2019 The Tablas Creek Vineyard Patelin de Tablas is a blend of four red Rhône varietals: Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Counoise. The wine incorporates fruit from several of the top Rhône vineyards in Paso Robles, each vineyard selected for its quality. Like many red wines from the Rhône Valley, it is based on the dark fruit, mineral and spice of Syrah, with the brightness and fresh acidity of Grenache, the structure and meatiness of Mourvèdre and small additions of Counoise for complexity. 93 points & Editors' Choice; "bright and floral on the palate, with rose tea and red currant flavors": Wine Enthusiast (Aug. 2021) Cline Cellars Single Vineyard Series Mourvèdre Late Harvest, 2017 This wine is luxuriously sweet and divinely tempting. Layers of coffee, chocolate, black berries and prunes dominate but they are beautifully balanced with a firm structure of acid and fine grained tannins. It is a wonderful accompaniment to rich chocolatey desserts like chocolate mousse, brie with mango chutney, or salted caramel chocolate squares. Loimer Brut Rosé Reserve (NV) A blend of Zweigelt, Pinot Noir, and Sankt Laurent from biodynamically-farmed vineyards in Langenlois and Gumpoldskirchen. Discreet but long-lasting foam presentation. Opens beautifully with air, exuding yeasty notes along with aromas of plum cake and puff pastry with cherries. Plays its strength on the palate with discreet fruitiness, fine mousse, notes of white nougat and hazelnut cake, a mouthfilling texture and wonderfully soft acidity. Niederösterreich, Austria Château Graville-Lacoste Graves Blanc, 2020 Hervé Dubourdieu is the mastermind behind Château Graville-Lacoste. Blend of 75% Sémillon, 20% Sauvignon Blanc and 5% Muscadelle. There could be no better way to enjoy this crisp, invigorating Graves than with a platter of fresh seafood. Very fresh and approachable with notes of dried citrus, beeswax, and flowers on the palate. Lively and light bodied, this is the quintessential wine for dining al fresco. An absolute treat that offers a lot for its price. Bordeaux Domaine Michel Magnien Bourgogne Pinot Noir, 2018 This clean, ripe biodynamic Burgundy captures the cool scents of the forest above the Côte d’Or. Frédéric Magnien blends it from his parcels in the Côte de Nuits, the vines averaging 50 years of age. He includes 20 percent of the whole clusters in the fermentation, then ages half of the wine in concrete, half in used barrels. It feels juicy and complete, with sweet red fruits and earthy undertones, a sleek Bourgogne rouge that could stand in for a village-level wine. Anima Negra Vi de La Terra Mallorca ÀN/2, 2019
The Ànima Negra nicely showcases Mallorca's rich heritage of indigenous varieties. Made in the town of Felanitx, and labeled as Vino de la Tierra de Mallorca, ÀN/2 is a blend of 65% Callet, 25% Fogoneu and Manto Negro, and a 10% Syrah which adds an international touch. Deep ruby-red in color, ÀN/2 has complex aromas of savory spices, wild raspberries, dark cherry fruit and a hint of violets and smokiness. On the palate the wine is silky and elegant with intense flavors of mature fruit. Well-balanced with a long finish. Decant 30 minutes before drinking. Balearic Islands, Spain Matthews Winery Claret Columbia Valley, 2018 Exquisite blend of 71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, and 4% Petit Verdot. Cassis, currants, plum skin, bloomed baking spices with a whiff of dark fruit, graphite and crème brûlée. Swirling adds some dried herbs and perfumed sweetness. This wine is dense and opulent with unfolding layers of fruit and spice. The palate is composed with dark smoldering black fruit, black tea and additional lingering spices. The texture and tannins are layered and persistent. Columbia Valley, WA *members rsvp to [email protected] The first & only wine shop in Minnesota featuring sustainable, organic & biodynamic wines.
