WALTHAM, MA — Police Tuesday morning arrested a fugitive in Waltham charged with May shooting homicide in Texas, Massachusetts State Police said.
Officers from the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section and other law enforcement agencies arrested Eugene Reid, 40, who is wanted for the fatal shooting of a nightclub employee in Corpus Christi, Texas on May 13. He is arraigned in Massachusetts, but will be extradited to Texas, authorities said.
Corpus Christi police identified Reid as the shooter following the incident, and obtained a warrant for his arrest, according to a news release from the Massachusetts State Police.
Initial searches to locate Reid around Corpus Christi were unsuccessful, so the investigation was turned over to the US Marshals Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force, who received intel that Reid had fled to Rhode Island. The Rhode Island Violent Fugitive Task Force took over the investigation, and determined that Reid was hiding in Waltham.
Massachusetts and Rhode Island authorities began checking potential addresses in Waltham on Monday. On Tuesday at about 7:30 a.m., following new information, Massachusetts VFAS, members of the US Marshals task forces from Rhode Island and Massachusetts, and Waltham police went to an apartment on School Street in Waltham. The team found Reid inside, and arrested him without incident.
Reid was booked on one outstanding warrant for murder, with a $1,000,000 bond, at the State Police Concord Barracks. He will be arraigned in Massachusetts as a fugitive from justice, the MSP said. Prosecutors will work to arrange an extradition to Neuces County, Texas to be tried for murder.
