MEDFORD, MA —Two people were arrested early Monday morning after crashing an SUV and leading officers on a short chase, Medford Police said. Jahir Davis, 18, of Roslindale and a juvenile suspect were arrested on existing warrants, and face charges including unlawful possession of ammunition, furnishing a false ID to police, and breaking and entering a motor vehicle. Medford Police say a resident in the Fulton Heights neighborhood called them at 12:20 a.m. Monday and said some people appeared to be trying to break in to vehicles and steal what was inside. The resident yelled at the people, who got into a white SUV and left. A Medford officer saw the white SUV on Draper Street and Foss Street around 12:30. Police say the driver of the SUV accelerated towards the police cruiser, drove over the sidewalk, and went down Foss Street onto Fellsway West. The SUV hit a utility pole in the 700 bock of Fellsway West and came to a stop after hitting a garage. Two people ran away on foot, and the officer chased them. Other officers were in the area, and set up a perimeter around the crash site. Massachusetts State Police and the MSP K9 unit also responded. One suspect was found hiding in a back yard on Gaston Street, and another was hiding in a car in a driveway on Fellsway West, police said. Davila and the juvenile suspect had warrants out for their arrest, Medford Police said. Police said the suspects came to Medford in a white van that was stolen in Lawrence, damaged the van, and stole a white SUV in Medford. Police say additional charges are possible for vehicle theft. One of the suspects had a warrant for gun charges, and had ammunition when police arrested him. Medford Police and Massachusetts State Police searched the area for a firearm that the suspects may have discarded.
