MARBLEHEAD, MA — Marblehead fire crews were able to keep a car fire inside a Kimball Street garage from spreading on Monday.
Fire officials said that shortly after noon all apparatus were dispatched to fight the blaze that caused heavy smoke from the garage and reached two alarms.
Marblehead Fire Chief Jason Gilliland ordered the second alarm with Swampscott and Salem fire crews also responded to the scene.
Officials said the fire was contained in the garage area. No injuries were reported.
"Today, the crew from Engine 5 responded to the town of Marblehead to assist them on the scene of their second alarm fire," Salem Firefighters Union Local 172 said. "Marblehead crews and Engine 5 made a good stop, and our own Lt. (Thomas) Brophy was able to rescue a cat from the scene.
"Great work by all crews from all departments on scene keeping the fire to a minimum."
Beverly, Nahant and Lynn fire crews provided coverage for the towns as the Marblehead crews battled the blaze.
