FRAMINGHAM, MA — The results in Framingham's mayoral election came out almost exactly the opposite of 2017, when voters elected Yvonne Spicer as the city's first-ever mayor. Mayor-elect Charlie Sisitsky won all but two precincts, according to unofficial results. Spicer won all but two precincts when she faced now-Councilor John Stefanini in 2017. But there were several key differences this year in Framingham compared to four years ago. Voter turnout was higher in 2017 at more than 39 percent compared to about 30 percent in 2021. About 15,734 people voted in 2017 compared to an estimated 12,259 on Tuesday. The 2021 race also had a bigger margin: Sisitsky earned 8,283 votes to Spicer's 3,909, a difference of about 4,374 votes. In 2017, Spicer collected 9,128 votes to Stefanini's 6,457, a margin of 2,671. The 2021 geography was also different. Spicer won precincts 16 and 17, both located in District — historically one of the lowest turnout areas in Framingham. About 287 of 2,343 voters turned out in those two precincts in 2021 (12.2 percent) versus 457 out of 2,531 in 2017 (18 percent). In 2017, Spicer lost District 8 precinct 18 and District 7 precinct 15. In 2017, Spicer's highest margin came in precinct 3 in Council District 2 with 293 votes over Stefanini. She lost there by just under 200 votes in 2021. District 2 Councilor Cesar Stewart-Morales, one of Spicer's few supporters on Council, won that precinct by 235 votes against challenger Jake Binnall, according to preliminary results.
