MCLEAN, VA — A man who runs the Secular Institute at his McLean home is charged with alleged sexual assaults, according to Fairfax County Police.
Detectives were notified when a child told an adult that a leader of the Secular Institute Stabat Mater program sexually assaulted him. The owner of the home at 2001 Great Falls Street was determined to be Antonio Perez-Alcala, 75.
Perez Alcala operated the Secular Insitute at the home, where minors attended private mentoring sessions, according to police.
Detectives say mentoring sessions were often held in his bedroom. The victim was sexually assaulted during the private sessions, police say, and the investigation revealed a second victim.
A search warrant was carried out at the Secular Institute Monday. Perez-Alcala was arrested and charged with nine counts of aggravated sexual battery. He is being held without bond at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
Perez-Alcala has had contact with youth through various positions in Northern Virginia since the mid-1990s, according to police. He was affiliated with the Catholic Diocese of Arlington from 1994 to 2008 in a non-ordained capacity. Police are working with the diocese to determine if there may be other victims.
Anyone with information or who believes Perez-Alcala had inappropriate contact with a child can contact the Major Crimes Bureau at 703-246-7800, option 3 or submit a tip at www.fairfaxcrimesolvers.org.
