NAUGATUCK, CT — Democratic Mayor Pete Hess, who ran unopposed, was elected to a fourth term in Tuesday's election, but Republicans took control in Naugatuck.
For example, four Republicans were elected bailiffs, Steven Loban (1,638 votes); Daniel J. Renzoni (1,871 votes); Seth Bronko (2,013 votes); and Kristie Pistarelli (2,018 votes). Only one Democratic candidate received more than 1,500 votes.
On the Zoning Commission, Democrats Tom Kiernan and Wayne M. Malicki lost to the Republicans, Attila "AJ" Bordas (1,922 votes) and Eileen Bronko (2,287 votes).
For the position of Tax Collector, Democrat Jim Goggin, the incumbent, won re-election (2,195 votes) versus Republican Helen Northrup.
As for Treasurer, Democrat Carl Herb lost to Republican Judy Anderson (2,024 votes).
On the Board of Education, the Republican candidates were victorious (only one Democrat, Ethel Grant, received more than 1,700 votes):
Democrats - Ethel S. Grant; Jason "Jay" Celozzi; Cara Martini Munro; James M. Scully; Karen Vassell-Campbell
Republicans - Diana V. Malone (1,983 votes); Alicia Makowski (1,916 votes); Aaron McCool (1,895 votes); Jeffrey Litke (2,387 votes); Marilyn O'Donnell (1,991 votes)
Independent (write-in candidate) - Jolee Dinho-Guerreiro
For Burgess, the candidates were:
Democrats - Charles P. Marenghi; Rocky Vitale (1,985 votes); Fran Dambowsky; James A. Higgins; Francis Santana; and Shagufta Zahid
Republicans - Robert Neth (2,388 votes); Jan J. Mizeski (1,915 votes); Dorothy Neth-Kunin (1,881 votes); Meghan Smith (1,900 votes); George A. Murdry V; and Michael Bronko (2,165 votes)
