CURTIS BAY, MD — Police announced that a Curtis Bay hit-and-run crash hospitalized a motorcyclist last Thursday. Officers said the biker sustained life-threatening injuries. Authorities are still looking for the suspect, who fled the scene. The collision happened around 6:50 p.m. at the intersection of Fort Smallwood Road and Hilltop Road. A 2019 Yamaha YFZR3 motorcycle was heading north on Fort Smallwood Road approaching Hilltop Road on a steady green traffic signal. A press release alleged that a 2020 Nissan Altima was going south on Fort Smallwood Road and tried to turn left onto Hilltop Road, crossing in front of the oncoming motorcycle. The bike could not avoid the turning sedan. The motorcycle struck the car and ejected the rider, authorities stated. Officers found the unoccupied car nearby on Hilltop Road at Stoney Beach Way. Detectives are trying to identify and find the driver. Investigators think the main cause of the crash was the Nissan's failure to yield to the Yamaha. The Anne Arundel County Police Department asked anybody with information to call (410) 222-4700. Subscribe to your local Patch newsletter.
