NEW YORK — Runners hailing from Morristown will be among the tens of thousands to tackle one of the most popular road races in the world — the 2021 New York City Marathon on Sunday. The anniversary was supposed to be celebrated last year but was postponed due to COVID-19.The first NYC Marathon took place on Sept. 13, 1970 in Central Park with an entry fee of $1 and a budget of $1,000. Of the 127 registered runners, there were 55 finishers. Now there are more than 50,000 runners from more than 125 countries who will take part in the 50th TCS New York City Marathon course that runs 26.2 miles through the five boroughs of NYC. Eight Morristown runners and five from Morris Plains will run.
