National STEM Day is November 8, and in honor of this event WonderWorks Myrtle Beach will be hosting science labs throughout its building and accepting applications for its annual youth art contest. Participation in the National STEM Day festivities are included with general admission tickets, and the labs will compliment several attractions within the building. The ART-OLINA Youth Art Contest is accepting entries now through December 15, 2021. “WonderWorks is all about STEM. Of course, we want guests to come and have a good time in our building, but we also want them to leave having learned something new while they’re here,” explains Robert Stinnett, general manager at WonderWorks Myrtle Beach. “National STEM Day is a great way for us to enhance that experience and add to our collection of hands-on activities for everyone to enjoy.” Upcoming events and activities include: National STEM Day – WonderWorks Myrtle Beach will be celebrating National STEM Day on November 8, 2021, by hosting science labs throughout the building. The labs will explore the principles of press, temperature, density, origami, and more. They will be located next to exhibits and attractions that showcase the same scientific theories being studied in the lab, such as the principles of pressure next to the Bed of Nails and the temperature lab next to the Titanic ice bucket. This is the second year WonderWorks will be hosting this celebration on top of the over 100 hands-on, interactive, science-based exhibits that guests can explore year round.ART-OLINA: Youth Art Gallery of the Carolinas – WonderWorks is now accepting applications for the second class of honorees for its youth art contest. This year’s theme is “Imagination.” Applications are being accepted now through December 15, 2021, when 10-15 local artists will be chosen to have their artwork put on display in the WonderWorks art gallery. The winners will also receive four complimentary tickets to WonderWorks Myrtle Beach to see their artwork on display. The amusement park for the mind offers over 100 hands-on exhibits rooted in STEM principles. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, nearly 11 million adults fill such roles in our community as medical scientists, engineers, informational security analysts, and sociologists.
