LAKEVILLE, MN — Cinta Schmitz has been elected to the Lakeville School Board, the district announced Wednesday. Schmitz ran in a special election to fill the seat left by Zach Duckworth, who resigned before his term was up.
Duckworth left when he was elected to the Minnesota Senate.
According to unofficial totals, Schmitz won 5,974 votes. She received 49.7 percent of all votes. Runner-up Carly Anderson was narrowly defeated. Anderson won received 48.2 percent of the vote.
Schmitz will be sworn into office at the Nov. 23 school board meeting and will serve until Dec. 31, 2022.

Meanwhile, voters Tuesday approved a ballot proposal to add a seventh school board member seat to the school board.
The measure won 69 percent in favor — or 8,147 "yes" votes — to 31 percent against, or 3,684 "no" votes.
