DANVILLE, CA — The cost estimate to replace the damaged Hap Magee Ranch Park gazebo has tripled, according to the Town of Danville.
The gazebo was vandalized overnight during a July weekend after someone apparently broke balusters across the gazebo's railing.
The gazebo was due to be replaced soon, but the cost estimate of replacement tripled due to supply chain disruptions, according to the town.
Town maintenance staff pivoted and are working to replace wooden posts "to ensure that it is safe and sturdy, and in hopes of extending its life by several years when the purchasing climate is hopefully more favorable," the town said Monday.
Staff are also working to replace the decorative railing, which was deteriorating, before they repaint the gazebo.
This is not the first time vandalism has been reported in the park at 1025 La Gonda Way.
Vandals caused $30,000 in damage in 2011. Three teenagers were arrested after police found graffiti, a forced-in door, broken lamps and damaged trees.
