Southampton Town Residents Pick Their Slate For New Term

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — The voters have spoken, electing their picks in the Southampton Town election Tuesday. Incumbent Supervisor Jay Schneiderman and Town Clerk Sundy Schermeyer who ran unopposed, will serve new terms. Republican candidate Charles McCardle bested challenger and Democrat Thomas Neely to serve as the town's new Superintendent of Highways. McCardle garnered 51.32 percent of the vote to Neely's 48.62 percent. GOP town justice candidates took the race; Barbara Wilson with 30.37 percent and Patrick Gunn with 26.40 percent, compared to Adam Grossman, with 23.08 percent and Shari Oster, with 20.13 percent; Grossman and Oster ran on the Democratic and Clean Water lines. Residents elected two candidates to the Southampton town board: Republican Cynthia McNamara won with 27.28 percent of the vote, as did incumbent Democrat Tommy John Schiavoni with 25.30 percent. Trustees Bill Pell, Edward Warner, Jr., Scott Horowitz, William Parash and Ann Welker also took the race.
